The white wine of the Loire is dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Muscadet. The Loire Valley is grouped into four sub-regions. From east to west they are the Central Vineyards, Touraine, Anjou-Saumur and Nantais. 

Sauvignon Blanc is grown most famously in Touraine, Quincy, and Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume of the Central Vineyards.

Vouvray makes Chenin Blanc in both still and sparkling styles.

Red wines are typically light fruity varietals of Gamay, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir, most famously from Chinon and Saumur and Sancerre
