La Lisse Soie d’Ivoire Chenin Blanc

Region
Haute Vallee de l Aude, Southern France, France
Vintage:
2024
Producer:
Boutinot
Grapes:
Chenin Blanc
Wine Description:

Gently citrussy and herbal aromas lead to a densely fruity, peachy palate with great texture and a clean, lifted finish. Wonderful with warmly spiced dishes - Thai red curries and aromatic rice, spicy mango salads or even a fruity chicken tagine.

Planted at altitude on the cooler, abrupt hillside slopes of clay and limestone in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Chenin Blanc from this region would normally be destined for a Cremant de Limoux. However, in this case, the grapes are left on the vine much longer and it is one of the latest varieties to be picked, achieving full ripeness yet retaining a refreshing crispness. The ripe yet crunchy fruit gives La Lisse Soie d’Ivoire its freshness, vigour and spine as well as luscious texture, which is further complemented and enriched by partial vinification and maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak. The wine is grown and vinified sustainably, achieving HVE3 certification.

Tasting Note:

Hints of caramel and brioche lead to a densely fruity peach palate with great texture and a clean, lifted finish.

Food Suggestion:

A great partner to grilled fish, chicken and salads. Wonderful with Cape Malay curries, spicy mango salads and brightly flavoured pan-Asian cuisine.

Producer Description

Boutinot's story starts in 1972 and Paul Boutinot, having had a brief flirtation with shifting half a tonne of bricks up and down a ladder, decided the glamour of the building industry wasn’t for him. Paul quickly got into something else: wine.

After five years learning his trade in London, he headed back up north to Greater Manchester to join his father’s successful restaurant business. Frustrated with the quality of wine that could be sourced in the UK, Paul took matters into his own hands. He hired a van, trundled over to France, picked up some wine (it was legal back then) and sold it back in his parents’ restaurant.

Paul's reputation quickly begin to grow and it wasn't long before other restaurants were asking for him to sell them wine and the company was started in 1980 as a wine supplier. Boutinot have furthered their reputation for great value wines by starting to produce wines themselves. They have partnered with Italian producer Adria Vini, have their own vineyard holdings and winery in France and vineyards in South Africa, and now a large percentage of Boutinot's portfolio is their own production.
