Givry La Grande Berge, Ragot
A Premier Cru Givry from Domaine Ragot, 100% Pinot Noir from just over 2 hectares of east facing vineyards consisting of vines of different ages. The wine is aged in oak, 30% of which is new oak for 12 to 15 months.
Fleshy and powerful with a herbaceous and spicy nose of dark, bramble fruit. The palate remains powerfull but elegant showing silky, black cherry and blackberry supported by gentle, spicy oak. This wine can be enjoyed now but if laid down will develop further complexity over the next 7 years or so.
The Ragot have been making wine since 1760 when they started out in Mercury. Generations later the family continues today in the village of Givry where they own 9 hectares of vineyard, a third of which are Premier Cru sites. Owned and run by Jean-Paul Ragot with his son Nicholas Ragot working as the winemaker Domaine Ragot produce nine wines altogether including a Crement, two whites and three Premier Cru Pinot Noirs.
