Assyrtiko Voila Vineyard
Wine Description:
Aromas of white-fleshed fruit and citrus flowers with chalky notes and hints of fresh green herbs and sweet spices. Full flavoured and structured, with balanced and well-integrated tannins and acidity with salty freshness and a long crisp, mineral aftertaste.
Lyrarakis family uncovered East Crete's potential since the 1970s. Initially in the "Voila" plain and later in the surrounding areas, we have identified exceptional vineyards where the great grape variety Assyrtiko thrives.Hand-harvested in 20kg boxes during the last days of August (one month earlier than usual). Skin contact was carried out at 12°C for an average of 24 hours, while 8% of the grapes had fermentation maceration on skins. 40% of the must had spontaneous fermentation and 12% of the wine matured in oak for 4.5 months.
Producer Description
The Lyrarakis estate is a family vineyard and winery which has been producing high quality wines since 1966. Lyrarakis has devoted itself to the revival of indigenous, almost extinct, rare varieties such as Dafni, Plyto, Melissaki and others, vinifying wines that highlight their unique and distinctive character. Lyrarakis is located in the mountainous commune of Alagni (440 metres above sea-level), south of the city of Heraklion, in Crete. The soils are predominantly loam with either more sand or clay depending on the vineyard site. In charge of winemaking, is Myriam Ambuzer who has been vital in securing Lyrarakis a place in the elite wineries of Greece. Her philosophy emphasises precision, purity and supple texture of the fruit.
